Can exes who don’t get back together stay friends? If you’re staying friends with your ex only because of sentimental reasons & because you still have feelings for her, is it going to work out? The answer is, most likely, no.
Based on studies, exes keep in touch because: They want security, it’s convenient, they think it is the right thing to do, or because they hope to rekindle the relationship. If you want to rekindle your relationship & fix your issues but can’t and then stay friends, then it won’t work.
The only solution is to get back together and start from scratch. Exes who stay friends due to pragmatism, civility, or security have better friendships, but most of the time, exes only stay long-term friends if the relationship already started as friends.
The bottom line is: Staying friends with an ex rarely is a long-term solution. Either you can resolve your relationship issues, or most likely over time, you will drift apart unless you were best buddies before being a couple. So make sure you stay friends for the right reasons.
