If your ex came back after a long time of no contact, it means that she was curious about you and she wanted to find out if it would be a good idea to date you again. If you’ve been talking for a while and then she tells you shit like “You’ll always have a place in my heart but let’s just be friends,” then do not accept her terms and don’t stay in touch!
The harsh truth is that you very likely turned her off through some of your words or actions and she felt that you were extremely emotionally invested in her, even though she was not. She knew that there was no relationship, whereas you were invested in one. This doesn’t give her confidence in your strength because she holds all the bargaining power! She would rather be with a man of whom she’s not quite certain whether or not she can have him.
If she wants to be friends, say no and accept the uncomfortable reality that she won’t give it another try for a long time. Now is the time to move forward and date new women! There is no way of knowing if she will ever be attracted to you again and even if she is, her being turned off is a lesson that there are still insecurities within you that she doesn’t like. So focus on your personal growth and date other women!
