When you’re dating a woman who is still in touch with an ex who only causes problems, it’s difficult to figure out what to do. Is she in touch with her ex because she is codependent and simply doesn’t know how to escape and detach from her ex who won’t leave her alone? Is she too afraid to confront him or hurt his feelings? Or is she doing this on purpose and not shutting him out as a deliberate choice to keep her options open?
This is an incredibly difficult situation because you love her and although this hurts, it could be that she merely lacks resilience. If she simply doesn’t know how to help herself, she will at the very least express her discomfort and remorse to you. Then it is up to you to support her to make the right choice and to cut her ex off. However, if you never see any signs of her regretting the entire situation or feeling overwhelmed how to handle her ex-boyfriend who won’t give her space, then you should ask yourself if she doesn’t value you enough to devote herself fully to you.
Either way, no matter what the nature of your girlfriend is — if she doesn’t set clear boundaries with him, you should consider leaving her if this continues for too long.
